Planet Earth

Planet Earth - Sigur Ros
I found this on YouTube, it's not my video. I watched the entire BBC / Discovery series Planet Earth with my son & it belongs in every DVD collection.

If that series doesn't get us off our butts to work with our planet, I don't what will. The many first-time footage captured & new technology used really does the Earth true honor.

This video must be some kind of trailer -- I recognize some of the images from the series, but not all. The music is by Sigor Ros (Victory Rose) an Icelandic band. The song is Hoppipola (Hopping into puddles).

Hello Pamir,

I find the timing uncanny, that your blog (and this video) are showing up in my life right now. It feels to me that I am emerging from a cave of deep interior work and rubbing my eyes in the bright glare of full daylight. Its so very tempting to go back into the cave, the known, the darkness since “the night (offers) a horizon further than you can see.”  ***

But again, life is nudging me along via circumstances, and as I watched the brief video I recognize what terrifies me in it.

The degree of pain and grief I feel when I realize what we are doing to this marvelous planet is almost unbearable. I realize that I will have to walk through that territory if I am going to be capable, on any level whatsoever, of effective and vulnerable participation.  This video, and the sincerety and focus of your endeavors, is a wakeup call for me. Once my eyes get a bit more adjusted, I’ll get back to you on this one!

I think TreeBanker has the right idea.

Stephanie, thank you for your engaging commentary. I think what terrifies you is partially alleviated in conversation about it & community around it. It's not little old you against the ills of humankind, but me & zaadsters, Al Gore & Leonardo DiCaprio, the spirit of the ancestors & the animal spirits too.

Burnout happens. In healing, in activism, in environmentalism. Fear & anger come up. At this stage we have to put all that aside. We're in it together now, it's not a fringe effort and there isn't any room for complacency.

And caves are significant.  They are indeed the place of “deep interior work” and meditation. That's why in the Native tradition Bear medicine, i.e., hibernation=meditation, the cave of the divine in the brain.

Very well put Pamir,

It took a collective effort to put us in the situation we currently find ourselves. It will require a collective effort to pull ourselves back out.

Education always precedes action. We're fortunate that our society has Gores and DiCaprios that are adept at using the media to educate the public.

Venues like Zaadz will serve as hubs in the wheels of environmental activism. Once we gain momentum the public will will be forced to pay attention.

Change is inevitable. Preparation is optional.
